The Christmas season and sales started long ago. Commercials are advertising Black Friday and Black Saturday sales. This is too soon for me.
I caught myself singing and humming Christmas carols along with the music as I was shopping. Before we prepare for Advent, we observe a season of thanksgiving each year. Remember Thanksgiving?! Thanksgiving is a time to pause and give thanks for all the blessings in your life.
Traditions of thankofferings
Women of the ELCA has a tradition of giving Thankofferings. This is significant to many Lutheran women and it has been passed down for generations. Thankofferings show gratitude for God’s blessings and give us an important and tangible way to express that gratitude.
It is a tradition grounded in our celebration of community, of meeting together to joyfully give thanks for what God has given us. You can learn more about Thankofferings too.
I am thankful for Women of the ELCA and how our participants encourage and support each other to act boldly by giving. Your gifts help Women of the ELCA reach others through ministry and action, resources, scholarships, special initiatives and publications.
Have you had a Thankoffering service this year? What are you giving thanks for this year?
Eva James Yeo is director for membership. This year Giving Tuesday is Nov. 27. Will you consider an offering to Women of the ELCA next Tuesday?
