Thankofferings
Gratitude. Gratitude cultivated, recognized, expressed and acted on. The ways we show gratitude and act on it are the ways we actually do make a difference in the world.
We Lutheran women have a particular way of acting on gratitude–Thankofferings. Is your congregation or women’s organization organizing a Thankoffering service this year? Take part. Help out with the arrangements, even. If not, you can still take part by making your Thankoffering gift online or by mail.
How Thankofferings work
Many women save small amounts of money at home throughout the year and then bring their gifts together with those of other women in their groups or local circles at the end of the year. Others plan a Thankoffering service with the whole congregation, celebrating the work of women in a lively, inspiring way. It’s your choice. Having a yearly service with your group or congregation is just one way to join in this long-standing tradition among women of faith. Since we feel thankful more than once a year, we can make Thankofferings whenever we feel inspired!
What do Thankofferings support?
The founders of Women of the ELCA decided back in 1988 that Thankofferings are to support the ongoing ministries of the churchwide women’s organization. Your gifts to Women of the ELCA through Thankofferings make our advocacy work, our support of WELCA groups in congregations and synods, resources, grants, scholarships, publications and the triennial convention possible!
