Violence in America
by Guest blogger

“Blacks kill whites, it’s jail time. Whites kill blacks, it’s riot time. Blacks kill blacks it’s Miller time.”

This quote directly from the Reverend Jessie Jackson refers to society’s views of violence in America as it relates to race. Recent events of violence in America towards unarmed African American men have sparked outrage and protest for justice against police brutality and Black injustice. Specifically, several riots broke out in Ferguson, Missouri, after a police officer was accused of killing an unarmed teenager.

It is my opinion that murder is a heinous act and is wrong no matter what race, gender or economic status the victim is associated with. For example, I think there should have been several protests against the black on black crime we have witnessed in the Chicagoland area. For example, the murder of Hadiya Pendleton, a young teenager killed by a Chicago gang banger just shortly after performing at President Obama’s Inauguration should have angered all Americans and sparked outrage and protest.

All lives matter!
