The ending of the Earth’s cycle has always spurred in us the desire to remember our past even as we turn and look toward our future. This natural seasonal cycle is reflected in our spiritual life and in our corporate worship, too.
All Saints Day gives us a place to remember and give thanks for all saints, both living and dead. We put our trust in God’s resurrection promise even as the Earth is dying around us.
“Listen, I will tell you a mystery! We will not all die, but we will all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and all the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.” 1 Corinthians 15:51-52
Even as winter approaches, we anticipate the first blossoms of spring.
