As we contend with daily irritations, struggle with relationships, confront the violence, racism, and injustice in the world, and encounter sickness and death, the challenge is to not let life wear us down—and not to give in to indifference or cynicism. Rather, we continue to believe that as women created in the image of God, who we are and what we do matter. Trusting that God has chosen each of us to make things happen will strengthen our spirit and help us overcome hopelessness and helplessness.
This message is adapted from “Becoming Wise Women” written by Julie Dennison in the February 1993 issue of Lutheran Woman Today (now Gather) magazine. The ELCA Churchwide Assembly continues today, and we continue to hold our leaders in prayer.
