For Mary, the angel’s arrival definitely signaled new possibilities. She who was young and as yet unmarried had no idea before the angel’s announcement that she would be carrying a child – and the son of God, no less.
In our lives, we don’t always know what’s coming, either. What we have for sure is right now, the present moment. We don’t know what’s ahead in the next moment, day, month, or year. And we don’t know all the possibilities God may have in store for us.
It’s a good time to ask: What wants to be born in me this season? Is God trying to get your attention? Is it time to consider a new direction in your life? A time to more fully develop some aspect of yourself? Deeper compassion? More trust? More authenticity and honesty in how you live? The end to an unhealthy relationship? Or the beginning of a new, life-giving one? New attitudes? What is it that wants to be born in me, God?
