Years after I left seminary in disillusionment, somewhere in the back of my mind, a number of imperfect biblical characters began to emerge: Elijah fleeing to the wilderness in despair, waiting to hear the still, small voice that might put him back on his prophetic path. Moses, Jacob, David. If God could use these flawed, deeply sinful people, maybe–just maybe–God could use me, could use all of us.
