Watching my children deal with changes in their lives—the big and the small—leaves me in awe of the skills humans have to rebirth themselves, to adjust to new circumstances and to find something that sustains them. On Easter, we hold on to that something, that hope and promise of rebirth and life after death. Our losses help us hear the Easter message of new life in real ways. That message enables us to endure our sorrows.
Easter is one of those times we give ourselves permission to pause and think of the changes—the deaths and resurrections—in our lives. Easter is a good time to breathe in God and take to heart the life-giving promise.
This message is adapted from “Seeds of Hope” written by Kirsi Stjerna in the March 2005 issue of Lutheran Woman Today (now Gather) magazine.
