To say that we live in anxious times is an understatement. Harsh rhetoric fills our airways, and violent actions our news—often pitting one religion against another or elevating one religion above others. How are we called to respond?
Can it be that God chooses to relate to people different from us in covenants different than the covenant through which God relates to us? Where do you stand? Is God’s covenant blessing limited to us and people like us, or is it expansive in ways we cannot even imagine?
Whether in our individual relationships or in our response to religions different than ours, what we say or don’t say has implications far beyond ourselves. What does it mean to be faithful to our calling as Christians in our time and place?
This message is an excerpt of “Can we be different together” by Gwen Sayler in the April 2018 issue of Gather magazine. Today we remember Peter and Paul, apostles.
