The Associated Church Press honored Women of the ELCA publications with seven awards at its annual Best of the Christian Press Awards Banquet in Chicago on April 20, 2018. Gather earned five awards, and Café was awarded two.
“The publishing ministries of Women of the ELCA aim to help women of all ages and walks of life to act boldly on their faith in Jesus Christ,” said Linda Post Bushkofsky, executive director of Women of the ELCA. “These honors are a testament to the dedication of the staff, writers and artists who work hard every day to create content that helps women do just that.”
The awards—given for work published in 2017—were:
Award of Excellence in the Professional Resource—All Media category to Gather for “Confronting our comfort: What is a privileged person to do?” by Judith Roberts, writer; Elizabeth Hunter, editor; Sarah Carson, associate editor.
Award of Merit in the Service Journalism—All Media category to Gather for “Wearing our faith” by Rebecca Ballard, writer; Elizabeth Hunter, editor; Sarah Carson, associate editor.
Award of Excellence in the Devotional/Inspirational—Short Format, All Media category to Café for “Faith in challenging times,” Collette Broady Grund, writer; Elizabeth McBride, editor; Audrey Riley, copyeditor.
Honorable Mention in the Online Media—Website Redesign category to Café, Elizabeth McBride, editor; Orbit Media Studios, website developers
Honorable Mention in the Art/Design/Graphics—Print Publication Redesign category to Gather, Karli Pawlak and Kelly McMurray, 2Communique, designers; Elizabeth hunter, editor; Sarah Carson, associate editor.
Award of Excellence in the Art/Design/Graphics—Magazine or Journal Design: Entire Issue category to Gather for the December 2017 issue, Karli Pawlak and Kelly McMurray, 2Communique, designers; Elizabeth hunter, editor; Sarah Carson, associate editor.
Award of Excellence in the Best Disapproving Letter to the Editor category to Gather.
