WELCA Purpose Statement

“As a community of women created in the image of God, called to discipleship in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves to grow in faith, affirm our gifts, support one another in our callings, engage in ministry and action, and promote healing and wholeness in the church, the society, and the world.”

Hello! Thank you for supporting this new program that is grounded in our Purpose Statement and outlined in the 2025 Strategic Plan. Your support is greatly appreciated for helping us connect young adult students on college and seminary campuses with girls age 7-12 in ELCA congregations.

If you are located near a college campus, or if you have been contacted by a Campus Ambassador, please help us identify a local congregation near them so that they can connect with a girl to mentor.

Please fill out the Refer A Congregation Form or use the sample email template below to send an email introducing yourself to the Pastor or staff of a local congregation.

Sample text: Hi! I am a Synodical Women’s Organization (SWO) President/WELCA Leader from<name of town/congregation> and I am looking to connect a college student (You can add the name if you have that information) who is a WELCA Campus Ambassador on the campus of <name of college> with a girl in your congregation age 7-12 for fellowship and friendship. The students are part of a new Women of the ELCA program called, “Campus Ambassadors“ with a goal of creating intentional intergenerational connections with women active in WELCA and girls in ELCA congregations. They are hoping to meet regularly/quarterly to engage the girl(s) in conversation, coloring, looming, games, etc.

If you have a girl or a couple of girls in your congregation who might be interested in having this student meet either at a cafe, playground or other approved space with parental consent, I would love to introduce you.
