A Women’s History Month series
March 10, 17 and 24
7 pm Central
The contributions of women in biblical interpretation have often been overlooked, intentionally silenced, or ignored. We’ll explore the significant contributions of Sarah Trimmer (d. 1810), Maria Stewart (d. 1879), Harriet Beecher Stowe (d. 1896), Argula von Grumach (c. 1564), Walatta Petros (d. 1642), and Jarena Lee (d. 1864). Hear from the authors of the newly published book Voices Long Silenced: Women Biblical Interpreters through the Centuries: Joy A. Schroeder and Marion Ann Taylor. Schroeder, an ELCA pastor, teaches church history in the Department of Religion & Philosophy and Trinity Lutheran Seminary at Capital University (Columbus, Ohio). Taylor is Professor Old Testament and Graduate Director at Wycliffe College at the University of Toronto (Toronto, Canada). Thank you to the authors and their publisher for making a chapter of Voices Long Silenced: Women Biblical Interpreters through the Centuries available for download here. Advance registration required
