You can share the good news!

A woman once shared with me that her friend and coworker was going through a difficult time. She talked with her friend every day and kept her on a personal prayer list. But she never told her friend that she was praying for her. One Sunday, her friend showed up at her church. The friend said, “All this time, I was asking God for a sign that God was with me, that somebody, cared and you never told me you were praying for me. I didn’t even know that you were a Christian.”

Sometimes our failure to share the good news can be hurtful. God nudges, urges, and sends us to share the good news with people who need to hear it. God uses who we are and where we are as signs of Christ’s presence with others. We don’t have to be pastors or official missionaries. We don’t have to be the smartest or the most talkative people. God wants to use us for who we are, as laborers for the harvest. Who you are, as a modern-day disciple and apostle of God, really is enough.

This message is excerpted from “Everyday disciples” by Rebecca Sheridan in the May 2019 Gather magazine
