Like so many classic prophets, Habakkuk is in a tough situation. God has given him a vision filled with destruction, violence and wrong doing, and he asks God for an explanation. But, instead of explaining, God gives Habakkuk a task: “Write the vision on tablets, big enough that even runners can see it as they speed by.”
Instead of giving advice about how to deal with the present evil, God tells Habakkuk to share the bigger vision of what will come in the future, when the righteous will also live by faith. God knows that the vision will help the people endure difficulties. In the face of immediate difficulty, what vision from God might give you courage and wisdom.
