To serve, not to be served
by Daily Grace

Serving Christ in our daily lives is sometimes a hard part of our vocation as Christians, but this unselfish service is indeed a significant part of what we are called to do. As we live out our mission, it is not about what we think we deserve or how we should be served. Rather, it is about proclaiming the Gospel and serving as witnesses to our congregations and communities. As faithful stewards, we understand the needs around us and appreciate the opportunities we have been given to serve gladly and with love. It is our common vocation that we share, not be served but to serve.

This is adapted from “Called to serve,” a devotion that appeared in the July 2011 issue of  Interchange. Today we celebrate the Transfiguration of Jesus and remember Polycarp, bishop of Smyrna, martyr, who died in 156. Please pray for synodical women’s organization presidents who are traveling home from Chicago following the annual Conference of Presidents.
