Martin Luther said, “I give thanks at all times, for the Lord is good, for God’s mercy endures forever. Amen!” (Adapted from Martin Luther’s Small Catechism in Evangelical Lutheran Worship, p. 1167)
During this season, we are reminded about all of the ways we can give thanks for our blessings. Last Sunday, we held a Thankoffering Service in our congregations. We took time to be reminded of the importance of saying thank you. We honored those who have gone before us, the saints in our lives who showed us what it means to be part of a community of faith. And now, Giving Tuesday, a global day of giving that encourages people to give to organizations as a counterpart to the commercialism of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, helps nonprofit organizations meet their financial goals. Women of the ELCA is working to raise money for the SALT Appeal.
Women of the ELCA’s fundraising team launched the SALT Appeal this summer to close last year’s $250,000 funding gap. Julia Sabella, an executive board member, has offered a $50,000 matching gift! Every dollar that is donated toward the SALT Appeal will be doubled. Give today to double your impact and help us reach our goal!
How we will celebrate Giving Tuesday
Every Monday on Facebook and Instagram we will be sharing SALT stories to honor the people in their lives who taught us how to Share Abundance, Thanks and Love. We hope you will share your stories in the comments.
My SALT Story
“When my daughter was born, my friend, Terri came to my apartment and paid for cleaning service. And then she read my daughter her favorite book from her childhood, ‘The adventures of Frog and Toad.’ When I think of what it means to Share Abundance, Love and Thanks, I think of my friend and how I learned to share my abundance with others by her example.

A prayer for Friends
God of love, thank you for friends – childhood friends, best friends, new friends, old friends,
friends yet to be met – for it is in the hands and hearts of my friends that the Body of Christ
comes to me. Amen!
