Reporting on God-sightings

In order to prove that the Gospel of Luke is a reliable document, the author notes that his investigation skills are top-notch. The writer states: “Since many have undertaken to set down an orderly account of the events that have been fulfilled among us, just as they were handed on to us by those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and servants of the word, I too decided, after investigating everything carefully from the very first, to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, so that you may know the  truth concerning the  things about which you have been instructed” (Luke 1:1-4).

From the very beginning of time, people have been witnessing and sharing about the activity of God on earth. It’s a neat image: human beings as investigators and reporters on the goodness of God. The story didn’t stop with the Gospel of Luke, though. The world still needs reporters, investigators, and eyewitnesses. This is an invitation to imagine yourself in these roles. You are the reporter, the investigator, and the eyewitness! What God-sightings and miracles can you report on this month?

This message is excerpted from “Advent” by Emily Carson in the December 2012 Café online magazine. Today we commemorate Luke, Evangelist.
