The word vocation comes from the Latin word vocare, which means “to call.” The Oxford English dictionary defines vocation as “a strong feeling of suitability for a particular career or occupation.” Even folks who might not use religious language can have that sense of vocation as they enter a career.
More often in the church, we understand “call” to refer to the specific call to the ordained ministry. However, every Christian is called to a vocation that serves God.
The more we pour out our souls to God, and the more we spend time in prayer and Bible study, the closer we come to God and to having the mind of Christ. As we draw nearer to God, we are better able to discern what God has in mind for us. There just might be a new and challenging call waiting for you.
