Last year started off full of hope and exciting milestones. I never dreamed that within a few months, I’d be living in a time of uncertainty and unrest or watch from my window as people marched by with signs in support of Black lives. As we struggle with the pandemic and respond to the call to action against systematic racism in America, we look back to the last moments that things were considered normal.
Throughout the New Testament, the word kairos, meaning time, is used 86 times. Each time, it is drawing our attention to the present moment. It is telling us that we need to pay attention to what is happening around and with us.
If this time has taught me anything, it is to live in the moment. It is to grasp so tightly to the good things and appreciate them so deeply that you hold them close to you in times of both gladness and struggle. I am reminded that good moments are fleeting, so simply letting them pass without recognizing them is detrimental to our souls.
