Though Paul seems to have had a grudging relationship with James, the brother of our Lord, Eusebius, a fourth-century Christian historian, reports that he was known as “James the Just” because he lived a life marked by self-denial and devotion to God. Indeed, he was famous for having spent so much time praying in the temple that his knees had become as calloused as those of a camel.
