When we black people are busy fighting stereotypes that demean, dehumanize and degrade us, it’s not always as easy to see the places, spaces and ways we experience privilege. If I take my own identity inventory, I, too, have privilege. When I got into close physical proximity to family members in rural parts of Mississippi, it opened my eyes.
