A prophet? Who, me?
by Daily Grace

Biblical prophets often felt unworthy of God’s call. They made excuses, and Jonah even ran away. But God doesn’t call us because of who we are. God calls us because of who God is.

Reflect on God’s call in your own life. Write “The Book of [your first name]” at the top of a sheet of paper. Now write what the first few verses of that book might be. Most of the prophetic writings began by describing who the prophet is, including important family relationships, and also a description of the specific time and place into which God is speaking. You might think of your local community, our country, or even our planet.

Now that you have named your context, what might be God’s word for the context you have identified? What do you hear God calling you to say or do? Have you or others heard this message echoed in Scriptures? Is it consistent with the good news and other Scriptures that reflect God’s purposes? In what ways?

You are called to help share God’s message in the world today!

This message is excerpted from the Bible study “We are called!” by Kathryn A. Kleinhans in the January/February 2020 Gather magazine.
