It’s difficult to find that fine line between the pursuit of a worthy goal and the idolatry of that goal. As a culture, we love to honor, even idolize those who pursue the hard thing blindly, aggressively, single-mindedly. We relish stories of mountain climbers, marathon runners, non-profit dreamers, rags-to-riches artists, scientific discoverers.
But the thing is, the partial-marathon runners, the air-lifted-down-mountain climbers, the scientists with wrong hypotheses, the artists still undiscovered—well, they’re in the mix too. None of us do this by ourselves. We do what we can do, propped up by the love of Jesus and a whole tribe of people who love us, flat feet, crow’s feet and all.
