Do you want to be lifted up by electrifying worship and messages from speakers who remind you that you are a miracle? I know I’ve been feeling this need lately. I can’t wait to connect with other women and hear their stories.
I hope you will join me at the 2026 Women of the ELCA Triennial Gathering in Des Moines, Iowa, July 16-19. Under the theme “I am worthy,” hundreds of Lutheran women will gather for workshops, service opportunities, a 5K Fun Run, worship led by talented clergy women, and plenty of opportunities for fellowship. Plus, ministry specialists will share how their organizations make a difference in the world and how you can do the same at home.
I’ve learned that the experience of a Triennial Gathering is always surprisingly different and equally inspiring. You may find yourself crying and laughing in equal measure. You will create memories with the women you travel with as well as the new people you meet.
You might bring your daughter, granddaughter or niece, sharing this new experience with her while making time to donate blood to the onsite local Blood Bank. That’s what Elysia, a SWO president from Nebraska, and her daughter, Madyson McGill, did at the 2023 Gathering. Or maybe you’ll create a mother-daughter reunion like Betty Brandt, a former churchwide executive board member from Minnesota. Betty and her adult daughters participated in the 5K Run, Walk and Roll to raise money for the WELCA Raising Up Healthy Women and Girls health initiative.
Not to mention, the DJ may play your song, reminding you of what a joy it is to be alive, while you dance and sing alongside friends at the Boldcafe Late Night dance party.
By the end, you’ll be ready for the words from the Closing worship service to enrich your life and embolden you to stand up against injustice as the Rev. Tiffany C. Chaney preached at the last gathering, “. . . if we practice Just Love, . . . our actions will require an unwavering stance for equity . . . reach for the margins and welcome all. Our actions may not add up according to the world’s calculations, but Jesus has not asked us to teach him accounting.”
I can’t speak for everyone, but I do know a few things for certain: Spaces for women are sacred. Our faith impacts our community and the world. And this event will not only change you, but remind you that you are worthy, just as you are. Don’t just take my word for it. Learn more and register.
Registration is open!
The Early-bird registration rate offers cost savings and is available until January 5, 2026. And lastly, this life-changing event is an experience for you and other women. Think about ways you can bring COLLEGE STUDENTS, NEW women in your congregation, MEMBERS in your family, and OTHERS who do not have the resources to attend. We will be sharing fundraising ideas next month.
