In 2012, more Americans were murdered on the streets of Chicago (532) than in Afghanistan (305).
We’re only midway through the month of January and there have already been 25 homicides in the city of Chicago. This is crazy! Many people have left the city and moved to the suburbs where they feel it is safer. But moving out of the city is not the answer. What will it take to stop the violence?
Of the 25 murders that have occurred in Chicago this year, five were of school-aged children. In addition, another 16 children have been shot. This is causing parents to live in fear for the lives of their children. Some parents are opting to home school. Is home schooling the future of education?
Will the new gun control sanctions lead to a reduction in the number of deaths due to gun violence in major cities? I pray that it will. But I have my doubts. The latest gun control laws only address assault type weapons and not hand guns. Yet most homicides occur with handguns.
What do you think?
