For more than 100 years, Lutheran women have given thanks to God and dollars to mission through Thankofferings. At the July 13nThankoffering service, in Minneapolis, Minn., participants gave $49,094.60 to support the ministry of the churchwide organization.
The Rev. Ann Svennungsen, bishop of the Minneapolis Area Synod, presided, and the Rev. Elizabeth Eaton, presiding bishop of the ELCA, preached.
Singing Wolf, from the Martin clan, an Ojibwe woman, welcomed participants to Minnesota, home of the Dakota and Ojibwe people with a Water Song.
“Dakota were here long before we were, but we are here together today,” she said. “Also, Minnesota is the birthplace of the most beautiful Mississippi River, the main artery that flows in North America.”
The Tenth Triennial Gathering continues through the Sunday, July 16, worship service. The public is welcome to the Sunday service.
