Since Women of the ELCA starts its year on February 1, July is a perfect time to take stock and see how we’re doing as a community of women created in the image of God. Now is the time to see where we need to make any adjustments for the rest of the year. We can use our purpose statement for that mid-year measurement. We know that we are called to discipleship in Jesus Christ and that we are empowered by the Holy Spirit (thanks be to God!).
Look in the mirror
Let’s take a look in the mirror. How have we grown in faith together so far this year? Have we enjoyed the Café faith reflections or Gather Bible studies together? What about affirming our gifts and supporting one another in our callings? Have we contributed to the work of Women of the ELCA by making generous regular offerings and Thankofferings? And how have we engaged in ministry and action together?
There are as many ways to do that as there are participants–what’s been yours so far this year? And finally: How have we promoted healing and wholeness in the church, the society, and the world? There are so many people in the church, the society, and the world who are frightened, grieving, hurt, or angry. How have we helped bring about peace and reconciliation where these things are so sorely needed?
There are many ways to do all of these things. Your regular offerings, Thankofferings, and “Where Needed Most” gifts are a powerful way to act on our purpose statement and on our mission statement as Women of the ELCA–to act boldly on our faith in Jesus Christ. Amen and amen.
