It can be scary for us to say “yes” to God, to bearing Christ out into our world. What will people think? What will God ask of me? How much time will it take? Will I have to give up things I like? When we open our hearts to God, we may open to more than joy and hope. We may open to pain and sorrow just as Mary did. Not all waiting results in birth. Dreams die. Babies die before birth. Projects don’t even get off the ground. What then?
That’s when we count on the promise of God’s presence and love. As holocaust survivor Corrie ten Boom said in her book The Hiding Place, “There is no pit so deep that God’s love is not deeper still.”
