Our church is famous for its catchy signs on the marquee out front. The “most poignant” award goes to a sign with a question we posted last year: “What if you woke up tomorrow with only the things you thanked God for yesterday?”
It’s hard to remember to be grateful when hardship stares us in the face. We’ve had a long, hard year thanks to COVID-19.
With every negative, there is a positive, and if we look hard enough, we’ll see it. What did you thank God for yesterday? Anything? If you focused your time on what went wrong, go back and find the positive. Then offer a prayer of thanks. Be grateful in all things and remember the words of our most recent church signs: “There are people who would love to have your bad days.
This message is an excerpt from “Gratitude changes everything” by Susan Sparks in the April 2021 issue of Gather. Today we remember Maximilian Kolbe, who died in 1941; Kaj Munk, who died in 1944; martyrs.
