Tanzania is one of the poorest countries in the world. On a visit to Tanzania in the summer of 2003, an American pastor asked his Tanzanian counterpart, “Why do you think the churches in Tanzania are growing so quickly? The Tanzanian Christian responded: “Because Jesus said, ‘Blessed are the poor.’ In the United States, you can buy what you need, so it is easy to become distracted by your wealth. In Tanzania, we have no money. We can depend on nothing but God.”
