What about all that stuff, then? What if I just can’t get rid of my three pairs of white pants? Well, I am also worshiping a false idol if I believe I can organize everything all by myself, never eat any carbs, and be absolutely perfect. A friend who is a scientist taught me about the second law of thermodynamics: Energy always makes a mess. Energy goes from highly concentrated to all spread out everywhere. In other words, it is theoretically impossible to have a clean house! Talk about a gospel message!
We live in a messy world. The only perfection in my life, in our life together, is the love of God or all of us, made perfect in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. To believe that I can be perfectly in control is a form of idolatry.
