“As he went ashore, he saw a great crowd; and he had compassion for them…” (Mark 6:34).
Jesus and his disciples are exhausted from their activities and haven’t eaten all day. They’re escaping the crowds in a boat to a solitary place. They need food, rest and downtime. Surprise! The crowd is waiting for them when they land. Jesus doesn’t say, “Not now; I’m too tired. Come back tomorrow.” He’s filled with compassion for them and begins teaching them. I love this verse and story because it shows me how strong, deep and unconditional the love of Jesus is for us all.
