Here’s a radical thought: Open-heartedness is the way to live. Life is not about protecting ourselves from hurt. It’s not about always being the smartest, the most worldly, the most cynical. It’s about being a fool—as the dictionary defines a fool—for life: “One with a marked propensity or fondness for something.” Thawing our hearts frees us up to be sacred in this world. In other words, to be ourselves.
