“And [Deborah] said, ‘I will surely go with you.’ Then Deborah got up and went with Barak to Kedesh.” (Judges 4:9)
Deborah, the woman called by God to judge the children of Israel, had the weight of a nation on her shoulders. Yet, she did not hesitate to go with Barak when he needed her.
We often find ourselves, like Deborah, balancing many roles and responsibilities. We serve as leaders in our homes, at our jobs, and in our churches. It is not always easy to balance our own leadership with the need to support others in their leadership. When others have problems or concerns, do we willingly come to their aid, or do we stop and think about how full our plates are? Deborah’s life and leadership style remind us of the need to be available both to God and to others.
