Do you ever talk about God with your children, grandkids, or others to whom you are close? It seems to me that many young adults, searching for the important truths in life, turn away from the Bible when they can’t find in it the facts about creation and about Jesus.
We can tell them that the Bible isn’t intended to be about facts. It’s not a science or a history book. It’s a story about the profound truth of God’s unconditional love for us. In Genesis 1, God created everything and pronounced all of it tov (the Hebrew word for good). Humans are even declared to be very good—tov tov. These are the truths of the creation story. The truth of the Christmas story is that Jesus was a human being whose flesh was filled with God. Jesus answers the question “What is God like?” Jesus shows us the truth that unconditional love is stronger than death.
