Sin boldly when breaking rules

11.26.2017
|
Daily Grace

Sometimes rules are followed because rule-followers believe that the rules are more trustworthy than grace. Those rule-breakers who are breaking a rule because it seems to violate the rule of Christian love have learned to trust Luther’s notion to “sin boldly.” They believe that even when they get it wrong, they are loved and forgiven even so.

This message is an excerpt from “Lord of the Sabbath: A God who breaks rules” by Anna Madsen, in the July/August 2017 issue of Gather magazine. Today is Christ the King Sunday.
