Reverence conveys grace and respect regardless of intrinsic value, status or station. It helps us show regard and support for refugees half a world away and sometimes right next door. Reverence requires doing justice, loving kindness, walking humbly with God.
Reverence is profound regard for all that God creates. When we see God’s fingerprints in the birds of the air and the fish in the sea, we understand the universe and its inhabitants as sacred. We love for its own sake, simply because it is and because all things contribute to the order of the whole. Reverence helps us live with a sense of kinship and mutuality.
