Jesus invites all of us who are weary or worried or working way too hard, to come to him for rest. This is the primary reason for God’s gift of Sabbath. We all need the balance that comes from getting away from the hectic pace of our lives. We need to remember that “it is God who has made us and we belong to God; we are God’s people and the sheep of God’s pasture” (Psalm 100:3).
God has made us and longs to keep us so that our lives might be long, fruitful, and compassionate, filled with the joy of knowing that God’s got the world and us in God’s hands. So let go and let God take care of you and everything else, if only for one day a week or for a few moments each day. Let go and receive God’s gift of Sabbath rest.
Today is the The Holy Trinity or the first Sunday after Pentecost. This message is adapted from “Sabbath sentiments” written by Gladys G. Moore in the January/February 2013 issue of Gather magazine.
