Multiple, intersecting aspects of identity cannot be observed in isolation. For example, during the 2016 presidential race, many rural whites felt their voices were not being heard in the wider political sphere. Although they had the race privilege of white skin, they did not have the power of middle to upper-middle socioeconomic status.
