A purple vase, a yellow mixing bowl and a hedgehog are all simple objects. But if we let them, our objects can tell a powerful story of faith and belief–a story of our lives and of the God who created us and the world.
Look around your house: What objects do you refuse to discard? What are the stories behind your most precious items?
The objects of our lives can tell the story of who we are and what we believe. You can see the vase in my home and listen to my story, and you’ll know that I believe in love that transcends time and space, that I believe in a God who makes beautiful gifts of us, that I believe in a God who works in mysterious and surprising ways.
This message is an excerpt from “Sacred objects” by Kimberly Knowle-Zeller in the September 2017 issue of Gather magazine. Today we remember the conversion of Paul. The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity ends today.
