I don’t remember the church of the glory days, but I do remember the church that pined after the glory days. I am wedged between Generation X and millennials, between the ordination of women and the birth of the ELCA. Like so many of my pastors, I have been called into congregations hungry for change, growth and life–as long as these things do not disrupt the sacred cows of culture and tradition. While I do not grieve for the glory days, an important part of my work is to grieve with those who grieve.
