As Wisdom sets her table and gathers us around, our tears become a memory, her hope, for us, abounds. Abundant grace and mercy give us our daily bread, proclaiming peace the victor and Christ our Sacred Head. We gather ’round a table, released from sin’s tight snare, One Faith, One Hope, One Baptism, one voice of memory shared.
This poem, by Rebecca Myers, appeared in the book At the Table: A Collection of Creative Works, published by Women of the ELCA in 1998 to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the organization. Today we remember Henry Melchior Muhlenberg, pastor in North America, who died in 1787.
