Nicholas was a fourth-century bishop in Turkey. One story tells of his secretly giving bags of gold to the daughters of a desperately poor father who was going to sell them into prostitution.
The ELCA has issued a statement condemning commercial sexual exploitation, and Women of the ELCA offers a resource, A Day Full of Light, to help us do as Nicholas did and work to stop the exploitation of the vulnerable. Visit www.womenoftheelca.org to download the free resource.
