I have a friend who prays for me. When she prays for me, which she does daily, it comes from a deep place. Somehow, in the midst of extraordinary physical vulnerability, she has found peace through her faith–and the ability to reach out and stabilize others.
She’ll send me Bible verses to think about. She’ll write specifics in her journal. She’ll pray for people I’m worried about and ask me about them weeks later. That’s the gift that faith gives us. In vulnerable times and places, we have the choice of being a light for others.
This message is an excerpt of “Be not crumblers” by Lindsay Hardin Freeman in the April 2017 issue of Gather magazine. Please pray for Women of the ELCA’s executive board as they begin meeting in Chicago today.
