I’ve often cringed at the words, “Let go and let God.” Perhaps because the phrase sounded too simple. But the older I get, the more I see that a good share of my inner work is just that: Letting go. Letting go of the illusion of control. Letting go of old hurts, resentments and anger. Letting go of limiting beliefs. Letting go of high expectations. Letting go of perfectionism. Letting go of all that gets in the way of simply accepting the messiness of life, secure in the knowledge that God holds us together.
Some words of wisdom from writer Anne Lamott: “I do not at all understand the mystery of grace – only that it meets us where we are but does not leave us where it found us” and “…as you get older, you realize everything precious that gave you a sense of wonder and laughter came from messes and mistakes, and from people helping you get back up.”
