I once interviewed for a position in a congregation where members were upset about “those people” from a nearby group home who disrupted worship with their behavior. “One member wasted the entire service sitting with one of them who was weeping and wailing,” one woman reported. “What would you do about it if you were our pastor?” “The first thing I would do,” I responded, “is learn their names.”
