God’s kingdom is like this: The word of Christ’s resurrection from the dead is left first of all for the lips of women, whose witness, at the time, would be counted as less than pennies in any court of justice. Resurrection witness was left to them, and maybe Peter – who had betrayed his Lord not once, but three times, at the very hour of his trial (Luke 24:1-11, John 20:1-10).
Why not leave such a powerful message with those more deserving, more likely some of the twelve? They had, at the very least, not technically betrayed Jesus, but had stayed around “watching” (Luke 23:49.)
Why not? Because Jesus loved the women who had come to his tomb to prepare his body for a proper burial. Because Jesus loved Peter. Because love, in the kingdom of God, has its own ways.
