Gratitude is a powerful antidote—maybe the only antidote—to fear. When we are afraid, it is hard to find gratitude. However, the practice of grateful prayers can be like a hand pulling us out of a collapsing hole. Those prayers may be life-saving.
Gratitude leads us down a path that looks a lot like the baptismal way. Even if we are dying or grieving deep losses, even if it may just look like dying, there are moments of beauty in and through it all, because God is there—even when we can’t see how or where or why.
