I love to give and get gifts. In giving there is the fun of finding just the right thing for the recipient. When I’m on the receiving end, I feel loved and appreciated.
The reality is, we don’t need anything. We have the basics—and more. There are many in the world, though, for whom this is not true. That’s why I’ve looked for other ways to mark special occasions.
Recently our godson affirmed his faith at his confirmation. Along with a modest gift card, we made a gift in his name for an ELCA missionary sponsorship. We selected a country from which came many of our godson’s ancestors. The missionary and his wife have sons about the same age as our godson. Periodically our godson receives an email from the mission family, learning about their lives and work.
Consider the many ways you can not only recognize the person in your life, but also positively impact the mission and ministry of our church. Making your gift through Women of the ELCA acknowledges and honors how women support the ministries of the whole church. Today we remember Mark the Evangelist. This message was adapted from “All Good Gifts” written by Linda Post Bushkofsky that first appeared in the October 2010 issue of Lutheran Woman Today (now Gather) magazine.
