When was the last time you invited someone to come and see Jesus, in Jesus’ own house? When was the last time you told someone that they just had to see the way Jesus is working in your life, in your church? Oh, I know, we’re mainline Protestants, the “frozen chosen.” We get nervous about things like evangelism, don’t we?
But maybe I have it all wrong. Maybe we’re not meant to be the ones pulling others toward the view. Maybe we walk right past God’s glory without noticing.
Maybe we’re the ones who need to “come and see.” Maybe our job–my job–is just to get up when called, to leave behind the worries and work and follow the path to God’s beauty, wonder and grace.
This message is excerpted from “Come and See” by Susan K. Olson in the January/February 2019 issue of Gather magazine. Today we remember Monica, mother of Augustine, who died in 387.
